Lost in Makeupland's Rock My Look collection

I have some swatches for you today. I purchased samples of Lost in Makeupland's Rock My Look collection on the 31st of October, and received them on the 21st of November. So, it took them 3 weeks to get here, which I think is a long time considering that they were sent to me from Spain (which isn't that far away). She did include a discount code though, since it had taken her more than the stated TAT for her to ship them to me, and I thought that was nice :)

I had high expectations for these shadows. In my opinion, they look absolutely beautiful in the product picture. It looks like they have a really pretty sheen to them (well, perhaps not Queen, but the other ones). And when I got them, that's exactly what I saw as well. I put all the samples in little jars, and the shadows look gorgeous in those jars!

However, once I'd swatched them, they didn't look that interesting at all. All the shadows look pretty flat on the skin, and they... well, they just look so similar! When swatched next to each other, you can tell that one is more brown, one is more blue, etc., but on the eye you can't really tell. They all just look dark. That's it.

Dream On was the one I was most excited to try. Lost in Makeupland describes it like this: "Dream On - This shade is specially difficult to swatch. It's deep and depending on the light and the angle where you look at it, will look gold or black. It's undeniably beautiful, you have to see it in person to understand why I love it so much!". And I love eye shadows like that. But this one, in my opinion, pretty much just looks like a warm dark brown color, regardless of the lighting.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I had too high expectations for these shadows. I love them in the jars, but they're just not as exciting on the skin. If you're looking for an "is it black or is it gold?" type of shadow, then I'd definitely advice you to skip Dream On and go for Persephone's Teeny Tiny T-backs instead ;)

To sum it up, I will use these shadows, cause even though I expected more, they are still pretty and I think they'll work great as liners. Let's just say that I won't be buying the full-sized ones.

From left - right: Dream On, Libertine, Queen, Seven Nation Army, Volta & Yeah Yeah Yeah

  1. I do think they're awfully pretty, but I can see how they'd maybe "muddy" on the eyes and end up as "dark", "slightly darker", "darkest".

They look fabulous for liners though!!

  3. I had the same experience with this collection & sent my samples to the trash can. I did order a couple full sizes on Nov 21 & these have never arrived. The company is now on vacation as Belen has been sick. She was supposedly mailing out orders on Dec 14 but mine has not yet arrived.

  4. Marcey: I'm so sorry to hear that :( I know the feeling... Have you contacted Belen about it?

  5. The shadows finally showed up yesterday & Belen include a 30% off code. The package was mailed on Dec 14 as she had promised, it just took forever to get here. The f/s I ordered this time were Taupe Eggplant & Antique Gold. They're quite pretty without primer & with Pixie Epoxy Taupe Eggplant really comes alive. I'm looking forward to wearing them together on my eyes as they are stunning.
